CNH Advances Agricultural Mechanization from Pune Facility

CNH India is expanding agricultural mechanization through its manufacturing and engineering operations in Pune, where harvesting equipment and crop solutions are designed and produced for Indian and international markets. The facility supports crop-specific mechanization by combining local engineering expertise with advanced manufacturing technologies.
Manufacturing capabilities
The Pune manufacturing facility spans approximately 280,000 square metres and produces combine harvesters, sugarcane harvesters, small square balers, tractors, headers, operator cabs and agricultural implements. The site incorporates advanced fabrication processes, automated paint systems, structured assembly lines and product validation procedures to support consistent manufacturing quality and production efficiency.
The facility serves both domestic and export markets while supporting product engineering and development for machinery adapted to Indian farming conditions.
Supporting agricultural mechanization
Mechanization remains limited across several agricultural operations in India, creating opportunities to improve productivity through modern harvesting equipment. According to the company, mechanization levels remain below 5% in sugarcane harvesting, below 30% in grain harvesting and approximately 2% in crop residue management.
Crop-specific harvesting equipment and baling systems can reduce dependence on manual labour, improve operational efficiency, shorten harvesting cycles and support biomass collection for downstream applications.
Product development
The Pune facility also supports product innovation for the Indian market. In 2023, CNH introduced India's first TREM-V emission stage-compliant sugarcane harvester manufactured at the site. The company states that it holds more than 50% of the domestic market for sugarcane harvesters and small square balers, while also leading the cab combine harvester segment.
The equipment is designed to improve harvesting performance while meeting emission requirements and addressing the operational needs of different crop applications.
Workforce development
Beyond manufacturing, CNH India conducts training programmes focused on agricultural mechanization, drone applications, digital farming technologies, sustainable sugarcane cultivation and crop residue management. These initiatives aim to strengthen technical skills among operators and support the adoption of modern farming practices.
Sustainable manufacturing
The Pune facility is certified by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) and has received industrial safety awards for 2022 and 2023. The site also implements energy and water conservation measures aligned with the company's 2030 sustainability roadmap, while community programmes support local education and healthcare initiatives.
